4th Annual Food Drive

Benefitting

Thank you for your support!

With your help scholars exceeded their goal, and made a big impact!

Our Blaze scholars collected a total of 3,202.1 pounds of food and…$1,120 in gift cards—our school may be small but we are certainly mighty!

It’s been an incredible week of Blaze Days!  In just two days of volunteer service our Blaze scholars divided and conquered!  We delivered all 3,202.1 pounds of food which was split between Hope Food Pantry and Baptist Community Center where our scholars weighed the donations, checked expiration dates, categorized and shelved all the items.  We packed dozens of Thanksgiving meal bags for families, and it took just 3 of our youngest scholars to pack 350 weekend meal & snack bags for local school children in need.  We had opportunities to serve at various mobile distribution sites and work in the warehouse at Central Texas Food Bank.  We helped prepare more than 200 lunch bags at Angel House Soup Kitchen, and we pitched in to unload a delivery truck, sort produce and even do some food rescue pick ups and drop offs for Keep Austin Fed.

And that’s not all!  Just as important, we learned A LOT along the way about social entrepreneurship and a few (of the many) nuances of food insecurity.  Our scholars put some of the skills we learn in the classroom to work while gaining a deeper understanding of a real life issue that impacts millions of Americans.  When some of our results weren’t exactly what we hoped they’d be, we gained lessons in humility.  When our efforts exceeded our expectations we celebrated one another.  We learned that hard work for the benefit of others is deeply rewarding.  We had opportunities to strengthen our empathy muscles.  We recognized that every contribution, big or small, matters.  And the very best part?  We forged even stronger bonds with one another in our Blaze community as we shared these incredible experiences.  Wonderful memories were indeed made!

Many thanks are due to our family, friends and community partners who supported our efforts.  With the 4th Annual Blaze School Food Drive results in the record books, we can’t wait to see what we will accomplish in year 5!
