Wendy Kubenka
Lead Science Specialist
As a child, Wendy Kubenka had a love for the flora and fauna in her rural East Texas community. This affection led her to attend the University of Texas at Tyler, earning a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies. Wendy holds Texas teaching certificates in Middle Level Life/Earth Science, Elementary Education Self-Contained Subjects, English as a Second Language, and Elementary Biology, Earth Science, and English.
Wendy has extensive experience at all levels of education – from classroom teaching to central office leadership. In addition to teaching middle level science for twenty years, Wendy’s educational career includes serving as an instructional coach to other K-12 teachers, leading library services and instructional technology, coordinating district gifted and talented programs, and leading district intervention services.
Wendy believes in a strength-based approach to teaching and student engagement, encouraging her students to identify their personal skills and areas of passion. Her personal skills, according to the Gallup Strengths Finders, include connectedness, strategic thinking, achieving, relating, and learning.
Wendy has a huge passion for nature, as is evidenced by her hobbies: gardening, fishing, cooking, and spending time with pets and family.
